Since my daughter was a baby, we have been applying this blessing over her. It stems from the ancient hebrew biblical blessing. We were inspired by the book by John Garr entitled The Book of Blessings: Ancient Biblical Blessings For Every Occasion. Here is an excerpt from the book. You can also find these and many other blessings in this book entitled, Bless You by John D. Garr.
Since we only have one daughter, I am posting the daughter blessing first, but will post the blessing for a son next in my 5 Days of Blessings for the Family Series! We pray this blessing over our daughter once a week during our sabbath time, but you may do this as you feel led.
May the Lord make you like Sarah and Rebecca, like Rachel and Leah who together built the house of Israel. May your entire life be fruitful.
May you be favored by your husband and be blessed with children.
May the Lord's full will for you be accomplished in your life.
The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious onto you.
The Lord turn his face to shine upon you and give you peace (shalom).
Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter, for you have been kind and generous.
The Lord God is your God, and his people are your people.
May all the people know of certainty that you are a virtuous daughter.
May your mouth speak with wisdom.
May your heart meditate with reverence.
May your hands do the work that God has given you.
May your feet hasten to follow the path that God has laid out for your life.
May the Spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and power,
the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
How has praying for your daughter/s made a difference in your relationship? Our daughters are precious and when they see us praying for them, they will learn how to pray also. It's a double blessing! Blessings and Shalom,
