What about you?

Do you remember the day you got married?

I know your story may be different from mine.  And that’s okay.

I want you to remember the day, the day you became a beautiful bride.

Can you remember?

It may seem so far away to some or maybe it was just recent.  Due to years gone by, kids, work, losses, mistakes, challenges . . . that precious moment can be forgotten.

Maybe your wedding day wasn’t a pleasant memory?  This may be a challenge for you, but through this study, you will receive a new revelation, a new picture of the perfect marriage to come.

And to you my friend, who is not married.  You are very special.  You have the great expectation of a wedding one day.  Maybe you dream of your future wedding dress, let alone your future wedding?  Until then, this is your time to treasure.  As a single woman, you have this precious time to devote all your time to serving Jesus and truly loving your King!

Every way, you look at it, ladies . . . there is joy in being a Princess Bride-the church!

Psalm 30: 5 says, “his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

That’s a promise to stand on!

Open your Bibles to Revelation 19: 7-8

7 “Let us rejoice and be glad!
Let us give him the glory!
For the time has come for the
wedding of the Lamb,
and his Bride has prepared herself —

8 fine linen, bright and clean
has been given her to wear.”  CJB

As we prepare ourselves, let us start at the beginning. . .

Before one can be a bride, she must be asked.

In today’s culture, we have so many creative ways for proposal.  I’ve seen flash mob proposals and a scuba diving under the sea proposal.   What happened to the simple days when the wedding proposal wasn’t all about hype or a big stage production meant to go viral?

So much has changed from Bible days.   When the bride to be was asked for her hand in marriage, she didn’t say one word with her mouth.  Nope.  The Jewish marriage proposal was a betrothal or covenant between the bridegroom and the future bride.

-Love Story of all Love Stories-

Boy meets girl.  You know what happens next. :)

Let’s take a look at how a Jewish wedding betrothal can compare to our relationship with Jesus . . .

1.  The bridegroom traveled from his Father’s house to the house of his future bride.
Jesus came from His Father’s house, to our home-earth.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.   John 3:16   ASV

2.  The bridegroom offered a contract or covenant to the future bride’s father.  The bridegroom was willing to pay a price for his bride.   This price was also referred to as mojar in Hebrew.

Jesus brought us a betrothal contract other known as the New Covenant or New Testament.   He paid the ultimate price for you.  He shed His blood on the cross at Calvary for your sin.

1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “for you were bought at a price. So use your bodies to glorify God".  ASV

3.  Once, the price was negotiated and set,  a cup of wine would seal the deal.
Jesus poured the cup of wine at Passover and said, “for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.  (Matthew 26: 28)
-This was the moment all were waiting for.  The future bride’s part to play in this betrothal whether to accept or not to accept.

Can you imagine?   You are sitting there at the table with your mother, father and siblings.   The price to be paid by your bridegroom is high and now it’s your turn to accept or decline.  All eyes are on you!

At that moment, the future bride answers by drinking or not drinking the cup of wine.

Drink the cup, already!

A Princess Bride Accepts the Proposal.   She said Yes!

There was no posting it on Facebook or an elaborate engagement party.  Sorry to disappoint.

Instead, the bridegroom announces to his bride before he leaves, “For I go to prepare a place for you!”.

Jesus said in John 14: 2-3

In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.  If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

When we accept Jesus’ proposal, we become His Princess Bride.  But, it’s a choice.  He never forces us to choose Him.

Just like the bride waited for her bridegroom to come back for her once he was finished preparing that bridal chamber for her.  She waited.

We wait.  We are separated from Him for a time.

During that time, The bride made herself ready for the return of her bridegroom-the King!

Isn’t this so exciting!  Can you capture how special this symbolism is to the heart of God.

In the next few weeks, we will look at the bridal trousseau and how every part relates to our bridal makeover.   Next week it's all about the dress!

There is much to prepare for, the wedding of all weddings is about to take place.

And after all, you have the starring role- the Princess Bride.

Heart Check
This is your time to reflect and go before the Lord in secret.   If you’ve been out of relationship with your bridegroom for a while, it’s time to come back.
If you’ve made other things first in your life, it’s time to fall in love again with your first love.  If you are ready to commit to a deeper relationship with your bridegroom, show Him at this time.

Have you accepted Jesus' proposal to be King of your heart?
Now is the time to make Him Lord of your life.

Blessings and Shalom
